Family tragedy caused the woman with the longest nails in the world to stop cutting them in 1997

A woman with the world's longest nails has revealed the tragic reason why she vowed never to cut them again. Diana Armstrong broke the Guinness World Record for the longest fingernails ever (female), with a combined length of 128cm.
She struggles with everyday tasks as she has very long fingernails. It has taken her 25 years to grow them, during which time she has not been to a salon once. She hasn't cut her nails since 1997 and says she will never cut them after a tragic loss.
Diana, who last cut her nails in 1997, vowed not to cut them again after her 16-year-old daughter Latisha tragically died in her sleep from an asthma attack.
Her daughter was the last person to get her nails done, even though her other children tried to convince her to do them with nail polish.
Speaking about how she copes with such long 'claws', Diana, from Minnesota, USA, said: "I can barely button up my trousers or jacket. I can open a can of soda but I need a knife. In public toilets I have to use the biggest stall, my nails are usually longer than regular sized stalls."
She added: "It takes me about 10 hours to paint and polish my nails. To paint them, I have to use a Dremel woodworking tool. If I have to pick up money from the floor, I can't get out. ".
After being officially recognized by the Guinness World Records team earlier this year, Diana initially thought it was some kind of joke, but is now proud of her accolade and believes Latisha would be too.
