Emilio Estevez reveals the tragic reason why his father Martin Sheen let him keep his Hispanic name

Emilio Estevez has recently spoken about the words that his father, the famous actor Martin Sheen, said to him when he wants to change his characteristic Hispanic name to that of the stage.
Born Ramón Estévez, Sheen changed his name to Martin Sheen in 1958 due to prejudice in the film industry in order to get more film roles.
When his son started auditioning for the role, Estevez said he too used the name Sheen thinking it would help him get ahead in Hollywood.
and at that time his father said to him: "Don't make the same mistake I did."
The elder Estevez said that in 1967, his grandfather Francisco (who was born in Spain) went to see Sheen perform at a Broadway theater but when he saw his son's new name, he says Sheen saw his father "shaking his head from disappointment".
"He didn't get over that," Estevez says. "So when it came time for me to do these moves and audits he told me, 'If I were to do it all over again, I would never have changed the name.'
Sheen has returned to his original screen name Ramón Estévez as a producer on the 2011 film The Way, which will return to US theaters.
Sheen has previously spoken about the name change in an interview last year.
"Sometimes you have to do the right reflection or have the courage to stand up for what you believe in, because otherwise you pay for it later," he explained.
"The only influence I had on Emilio was to make him bear his name," says the protagonist of the popular political series 'West Wing'.
"When he started acting, representatives advised him to change his name to Sheen, but he refused and thank God he didn't."
While Martin's second son, Charlie, known for his role in the TV series Two and a Half Men, goes by the stage name Sheen, that's why his real name is Carlos Estévez.
