Kosovo increases controls, suspicions of salmonella in chicken meat from Brazil to Albania

The Food and Veterinary Agency has announced that it has issued a border control order requiring all shipments of chicken meat (fillet-breast) originating from Brazil to be sent for microbiological testing, including typing for the types "Salmonella Typhimurium" and "Salmonella Enteritidis".
Following reports that Albania has banned the import of chicken meat from Brazil due to the suspected presence of "Salmonella Typhimurium", Kosovo has also increased control measures at two levels.
The news was announced by the Food and Veterinary Agency itself.
The AUV has issued a border control order requiring all shipments of chicken meat (fillet-breast) originating from Brazil to be sent for microbiological testing.
"Immediately after the publication of the news in Albania, on the suspicions raised about the presence of 'Salmonella Typhimurium in chicken fillet imported from Brazil'. The Food and Veterinary Agency has issued an order for border control, that all shipments of chicken meat (fillet-breast) originating from Brazil be sent for microbiological testing, including typing for the types Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Enteritidis. The shipments sampled according to the procedure remain blocked until the results of the analysis are obtained. Also, in the internal control based on the risk analysis assessment, several points of sale have been inspected, where in addition to the control, sampling was also carried out."
The FVA further indicates that the National Food Authority in Albania has been contacted, from whom they have received confirmation that there have been no re-exports of suspected products from Albania to Kosovo.
"From all lines of communication with consumers or health institutions, we have not received any notification regarding suspicions that any citizen has had health indications related to the consumption of chicken meat. To ensure our consumers, we have raised control measures at two levels. Samples are being taken for testing, the moment the results are released from the laboratory, they will be communicated to the public."
It is also indicated that so far there is no argument or laboratory result that proves the presence of "Salmonella Typhimurium" in imported chicken fillets originating from Brazil, "everything is only at the level of suspicion."/ Monitor.al
