Should Veliaj and Meta stay in the glass cage? Lawyer: It makes no sense! They have difficulty communicating with lawyers and the court

Lawyer Redi Ramaj, invited to the "Lunch Program" on News24 with Ola Bruko, commented on the use of glass cages in courtrooms, also focusing on the cases of Erion Veliaj and Ilir Meta.
According to Ramaj, there are positions of the European Court of Human Rights related to the impossibility of effective communication between the defendant and the lawyer during the judicial process.
"There have been positions of the ECHR on the inability of the defendant to communicate with the lawyer. We know from experience that they have a very difficult time communicating with the lawyer and the court. The defendant has a hard time speaking and has to communicate when no one else is speaking. For me, the glass cage makes no sense," he said.
The lawyer emphasized that every defendant should be on equal terms before the court, while adding that the delay in proceedings harms justice.
"When the process is prolonged indefinitely, it harms justice. I am talking about cases in general, not about specific names like Meta or Veliaj," Ramaj declared.
According to him, the glass cage should only be used for very high-risk individuals or those who display aggression in the courtroom.
"The glass cage can be used for very high-risk individuals, who display aggression in the courtroom and whose presence near the lawyer disrupts the process. They must have been warned at least once. For offenses with a not very high social risk, the defendant must be in the courtroom," he said.
