Ilir Meta seeks freedom, Supreme Court to decide on February 27

The Supreme Court will review the request filed by the president of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, for the lifting of the security measure on February 27.

The appointed judges are Ilir Panda, Albana Boksi and Medi Bici, who will examine not only the appeal of the former head of state but also that of MP Monika Kryemadhi.

Meta, who has been under arrest since October of last year, is requesting a more lenient security measure, where one of the arguments highlighted in the appeal is related to his being the leader of the second opposition force in the country and the situation on the eve of the parliamentary elections on May 11.

The former president is accused by SPAK of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets in connection with the joint Cez-Dia files, the former LSI's lobbying in the US and his family's expenses.

For him, the Special Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal have upheld the measure of "prison arrest", meaning that Meta has been held in isolation in the "Jordan Misja" detention center in the capital, or as it is otherwise known, 313, for nearly 4 months.

Even the Supreme Court, with the security measure "obligation to appear", has filed a recourse, labeling the measure illegal.
