"We are a Parliament without ears", the MP shows behind the scenes: When there are no cameras, everything is quieter

MP Romina Kuko has stated that the main problem in the Albanian Parliament is not the lack of speech, but the lack of listening between political parties. On Off the Record with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN, Kuko said that the Democratic Party's speaking time in parliament is twice as long as that of the Socialist Party, rejecting claims that the opposition is not allowed to express itself.
"The speaking time in the parliament of the Democratic Party is double that of the Socialist Party. Go, check it, see the time taken by the other side and of course yes, because I personally like debate and criticism and confrontation and it's good to have as much voice as possible when it comes to the opposition, but it's double and what we usually hear is that they don't let us speak, they don't let us discuss, they don't let us debate and so on and so forth. I often hear it said that there is a parliament without a voice. In fact, we are a parliament without ears because we don't hear each other when we speak and it is very important that we have the opportunity to hear each other when we speak," she said.
Speaking about the administrative-territorial reform, she stated that no decision has been made unilaterally and that continuous dialogue has taken place between the parties, and changes have even been made according to the opposition's requests.
"I am a member of the territorial administrative reform, the major reform that is being discussed now. There is no decision, no decision that has been taken unilaterally, but there has always been a dialogue between the two co-chairs and it has even been changed and the initial plan of all the consultations that the commission was going to do in the territory according to the demands of the opposition and I don't know if you saw it 10 days ago, a very long meeting was held just to accommodate those demands."
In Off the Record with Andrea Dangli on A2 CNN, the socialist MP also revealed the behind-the-scenes of how politics works, according to which when there are no cameras, the climate is calmer and more cooperative, while with the start of broadcasts, debates become tense and parties put on masks.
"Are you sure it's the same thing I saw in the Tirana Municipal Council, when there were no cameras, everything was honey and milk. The cameras were turned on, the masks were completely transformed. However, we are not talking about arrogance and the numbers are not especially for major reforms. There is a patience if we can call it patience to reach a common consensus. Because it must be understood that democracy in itself means coexistence between the parties and means the victory of the best idea. And if we want to be in the European Union one day, do you know what the last condition is? The last condition that the EU sets is the unification of all political forces in a nationwide coalition where all developments are agreed upon so that we can enter the EU."
