Joni Mushketa: Diaspora vote, 12 million euros to avoid electronic voting

The Euro-Atlantic Coalition's candidate for MP, Joni Mushketa, has reacted harshly to the way voting for Albanians abroad is being organized, considering the current process a typical example of the misuse of public funds and the rejection of efficient solutions through technology.

According to Mushketa, the cost of mailing ballots to the diaspora is expected to be around 12 million euros, or approximately 40 euros for each voter. “This is a process that could be solved much cheaper, faster and more securely, through an application in e-Albania, where every voter now has personal access,” he states.

For the candidate of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition-KEA, the rejection of electronic voting – both for citizens inside the country and those abroad – is not a lack of opportunity, but the will to preserve an old system that favors clientelism and manipulation. “They don’t want technology because they can’t control it. They don’t have a place to put the next envelope, so they choose the mail and not the app,” says Mushketa.

He recalls that the same political actors who now greet immigrants from the podium have previously voted against open lists and electronic voting. “They are together when it comes to preserving the morsels of power, concessions and monopolies,” he adds.

In conclusion, Mushketa calls for a mass vote on May 11, describing it as "a national obligation to overthrow a system that has captured the hope of Albanians."

The diaspora vote...

The cost of sending ballots to the diaspora will cost around 10,000,000 (million) euros, excluding VAT, so around 40 euros per ballot for a total of approximately 250,000 voters.

Now Albanians must pay a full 12,000,000 euros for a process that could be resolved electronically through an application on e-albania where each voter has their own access, thus reducing costs and the burden on the already-poor pockets of Albanians, reducing human resources, the possibilities of human errors and manipulations.

So they do not want applications through technology, both inside and outside the country, because they cannot benefit from the next corrupt envelope and cannot manipulate the will of citizens.

These are together because they voted together on the closed lists.

They also rejected electronic voting and counting.

And together they will once again share the slice of power which translates into:

Corrupt concessions to their partners.

Monopoly license.

Strategic investments.

Multi-storey tower.

Together they seek to preserve the status quo of their businesses and interests at the expense of an entire people.

It is a national obligation to vote massively on May 11, 2025 against a minority coup that has taken over and killed the hope for us, the free citizens of our blessed Albania.

Albanians must vote wisely for themselves and for our common future.

The causes of the country's misery cannot possibly be the solution and the election.
