"Vaccine contraband", Rama clarifies the statement

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama clarified the statement made during his speech yesterday at the "Culture will save the world" event, also in the presence of the head of the Italian foreign ministry. According to Rama, "Vaccine contraband" has been misunderstood because he simply used it as a symbol.

" I am amazed that my account of a token amount of vaccines given to us by Italy at the darkest moment of the pandemic can inspire us to take seriously the word 'contraband' that I used to jokingly describe a fraternal cooperation that has saved human life.

"I feel obliged to underline that what the press reported about my speech yesterday in Bergamo about sending vaccines from Italy is clearly the story of a paradox that cannot in any case be interpreted by taking out of context a word used in jest ".

" The Italian government - explains Rama - has actually responded to an official request from Albania at a difficult time in my country due to the pandemic.
As I said, it was an urgent requirement and a symbolic amount of vaccines to start vaccinating our medical and paramedical staff. Of course, I didn't mean to say seriously that together with Minister Di Maio or other Italian institutions we did smuggling, God forbid! All the more that these doses were donated by the Italian government in Albania and were used in a moment of serious emergency ".

" From the Italian side, it was also a sign of gratitude for sending, at a critical stage of the Covid epidemic in Italy, our doctors and nurses to support a brother country. It will always be a great place. pleasure to show this operation and to honor Italy, Luigi Di Maio and Giuseppe Conte for that breath of fresh air in complete danger of suffocation for an entire people, hoping that no one has too bad an idea to with single words, like the censors of freedom of expression in the dark times of Stalinism in Albania," said Rama.
