Lefter Maliqi calls for changes in the DP: Regional leaders should leave and mind their own business, and pave the way for other people

Former Democratic MP Lefter Maliqi has described the rumors that the Democratic Party does not yet have a candidate to face Ogerta Manastirliu for the Municipality of Tirana as renaissance propaganda.

According to him, the opposition has several candidates and negotiations are underway to agree on a name in cooperation with other parties.

"Albanians should not buy into this acting and propaganda of renaissance that the DP does not have candidates, it does have candidates, negotiations are being held to reconcile even the name, for me the name could have been chosen."

"These discussions are taking place because we are facing a narco-state, the DP also seeks the opinion of the rest of the opposition, of other parties, to put ideas on the table for a common name," he told News 24.

Further, Maliqi stated that the DP and the opposition need a lot of work at the grassroots level, because the regime is in action even after the victory.

"Rama does not let go, Rama does not forgive, he is not Fatos Nano, Rama is on the line of a dictatorship," he said.

Among other things, he emphasized that for the 2027 local elections, the DP urgently needs a base, because according to him, without a base there is no victory.

"Urgent reorganization at the grassroots level, political leaders who lost the elections should resign, despite the electoral massacre, they should see to their work." 

"Those who have lost their lives due to the massacre or themselves, should pave the way for dedicated people," Maliqi emphasized.
