Euro-Atlantic Democrats Program for the Politically Persecuted/ Basha: We put an end to historical injustice towards those who sacrificed for freedom

The Chairman of the Democratic Party-Euro-Atlantic Democrats, Lulzim Basha, states that the program for the politically persecuted is the fruit of a deep reflection on the mistakes and delays of these 34 years, which have created a shameful gap between words and deeds.

Describing this category as " the thorn of the right " and a symbol of resistance to the communist dictatorship, Basha emphasizes that it is time to repay the moral and material debt to them.

He has proposed a series of concrete measures, from the status of the politically persecuted, to their compensation and the return of confiscated properties.

The politically persecuted are the backbone of the right, a symbol of the suffering, endurance and resistance of our society during the brutal communist dictatorship. They represent an unforgettable legacy, therefore, putting the historical injustice towards them in its place, by repaying the moral and material debt that our society has towards this stratum, is imperative.

The Euro-Atlantic Democrats' program for the politically persecuted is the fruit of a deep reflection on the mistakes and delays of these 34 years, which have created a shameful gap between words and deeds, intentionally leaving the persecuted and their descendants in oblivion.

We ask for your support on May 11th to achieve:

The status of politically persecuted with the same economic treatment as former soldiers;

The complete Law on Lustration on the cleanliness of the image of every public official;

Full compensation to those persecuted within the first term;

Subsidizing politically persecuted people for health services for the elderly;

Return of confiscated property, where possible, or compensation at market value;

Creation of the National Museum of Memory for the crimes of the communist dictatorship.

We will take these steps together, to heal the wounds of the past, repaying the great obligation we have to the persecuted who, in the darkest decades for our country, sacrificed everything for freedom.
