"Never die Fatos Nano"/ Edi Rama closes his farewell speech for the former Prime Minister

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his farewell speech for former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, said that when he heard the news of his illness, he never thought he would see him in the morgue.

He went back in time and said that he and Nano shared bread and that he was "adopted" by the Socialist Party. At the end of his speech, Rama said that he was not saying goodbye but "Never die, Fatos Nano."

"When Dr. Solis called me, I thought at that moment of your wife, Joey, who would continue to be your head and for who knows how many years as the faithful guardian of your endless sleep. I didn't think at all of you, lying in a coffin to truly escape this life that you loved and lived, taking as much of the night hours as you could and wanting to drink the cups of fate to the bottom as they came."

This day of mourning came and I was faced with the difficult task of bidding farewell to a predecessor, but to the first chairman, the founder of our family. As I looked around, trying to get the words of this farewell out of my hands, I remembered your story about the death of Mo Tse-Tung. And I felt like the director of the metallurgical plant who had to say something to the Chinese in the square of the Combine.

The man who left Tirana today without returning, where he was born, raised, worshipped, anathematized and made history, is a special case. We shared bread with Nano. Our relationship began between extremes, up to my adoption into a socialist family to the murder of my father for taking his spectre, has no place here. There is only room for one fact, if I am today the spokesman for the bitterness of the socialist family, this is related to his intuition and courage, giving me a place in our family's chamber", said Rama.
