Working visit of the ILD to Denmark for cooperation in justice!

The High Inspector of Justice, Artur Metani, conducted a working visit to Denmark, on May 21 and 22, 2026, in the framework of strengthening institutional cooperation and exchange of experiences in the field of justice and accountability mechanisms of magistrates.
In Copenhagen, the ILD delegation held meetings with representatives of Danish institutions and the Albanian Embassy.
At the meeting with the Director for European Policies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Jakob K. Alvi, the progress of the justice reform, the standards of the rule of law and Albania's integration processes were discussed.
During the conversation, the High Inspector of Justice Artur Metani appreciated the Danish support and emphasized that the justice reform in Albania has consolidated the principles of the rule of law and the independence of the judicial system over the last decade. He underlined that the ILD exercises its functions in accordance with the principle of disciplinary responsibility, while maintaining the necessary balance between the functional independence of magistrates and the right of citizens to transparency and accountability in the administration of justice.
The meeting also discussed the regional cooperation of the ILD. Metani highlighted the institution's membership in the European network RESIJ and the organization in Tirana of the regional conference of inspection services with the Western Balkan countries, as an initiative that will continue.
For his part, Jakob K. Alvi praised the work and institutional development of the ILD, while announcing that Denmark will reopen its embassy in Albania in the coming months.
The High Inspector of Justice also held a meeting at the Special Court for Indictment and Review, where he was received by the President of this court and at the same time a judge of the Supreme Court, Ms. Hanne Schmidt, the Deputy President, judge of the Supreme Court, Mr. Jens Kruse Mikkelsen, as well as Mr. Christian Dam Nielsen, judge delegated to the Supreme Court and legal director at the Secretariat of the Special Court for Indictment and Review.
During the meeting, Danish inspection and accountability mechanisms in the justice system were discussed, as well as practices for handling disciplinary matters and ensuring professional standards.
The ILD delegation also held a meeting at the Albanian Embassy in Copenhagen with Ambassador Sokol Dedja, where the role of the embassy in strengthening relations with the host country and supporting cooperation with the Albanian diaspora was discussed, as well as its importance as a bridge between Albanian institutions and the Albanian community abroad.
The visit served to deepen institutional dialogue and familiarize with the Danish experience in the functioning of justice institutions and the standards of the rule of law.
