Extreme situation, the team participating in the World Cup is forced to begin a three-week quarantine after the US request

With less than a month to go before the 2026 World Cup begins, the Democratic Republic of Congo team is facing an unprecedented situation that threatens to complicate its preparations for the event. According to ESPN, US authorities have imposed a mandatory 21-day health isolation period for the Congolese national team before entering the US, as a precautionary measure in connection with the outbreak of Ebola cases in the African country.

The team, currently training in Belgium, was forced to immediately adopt a strict health protocol, entering a virtual quarantine to avoid any risk that could jeopardize participation in the tournament. Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House World Cup task force, revealed the severity of the measures. Any new person joining the group will be subject to special isolation, in order to prevent possible infections within the delegation.

US authorities are concerned that the possible emergence of a suspected or symptomatic case could seriously jeopardize DR Congo's presence at the event. The Congolese team had planned to stay in Houston and will debut in the tournament on June 17 against Portugal, before facing Colombia and Uzbekistan in the group stage.

The World Health Organization has issued a new international alert after a recent outbreak of Ebola in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, with dozens of infections and several confirmed deaths, prompting health and sports authorities to adopt extraordinary measures ahead of the World Cup.
