The 83rd Cycling Circuit closes, Dutchman Reemeijer wins but with Albania

After "booking" the yellow jersey with success in Vlora, Niels Reemeijer certified the victory of the 83rd Cycling District in the Vlora-Fier stage (122.8km), where the race officially ended.

Yesterday's field stage did not bring significant changes in the classification, while the big celebration went to the Dutchman from the Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam team, who closed the 83rd Cycling Circuit of Albania as champion, with a 10-second advantage over the Swiss Guillaume Haldimann (Humard VP) in the general classification. The podium was completed by Burak Abay, a cyclist from Turkey, classified in third place. Thus, for the second consecutive edition, the Circuit of Albania is won by a Dutch cyclist, while a year ago Tom Jonkmans triumphed.

STAGE FIFTH –  Meanwhile, Albania was able to experience the first joy in this edition, winning the traditional overtaking of the last stage. Thus, the Italian-Albanian Gabriele De Fabritiis triumphed yesterday in the fifth stage, Vlorë-Fier, placing Albania on the podium for the first time. But, in terms of the general classification, De Fabritiis closed in 27th place with a difference of 8 minutes and 2 seconds from the leader.

CEREMONY AND VERDICTS –  At the end of the activity, Skënder Anxhaku, president of the Albanian Cycling Federation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Fier honored the best of the 83rd edition of the activity.

Thus, the final verdicts of the 83rd Cycling District declared the Dutchman Niels Reemeijer the champion, who finished with the yellow jersey on the podium. The green jersey of the points classification was won by Georgios Bouglas of Greece. The points jersey of the best mountaineer went to Halil Ibrahim Dogan of Turkey, while the white jersey for the best young man of the activity was won by Jip Schouren. The Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam team was declared the team champion of the District, while Albania finished in 16th place, leaving only Kosovo behind.

But, the Albanian Cycling Federation can be proud of organizing an activity that, in addition to the sporting aspect, is also a promoter of tourism and the natural beauties of our country. We recall that since 2017, the Cycling Circuit of Albania has been part of the UCI racing calendar.

Reemeijer: I just had to defend
In his third participation in the Cycling Circle of Albania, Niels Reemeijer managed to be crowned with the first champion title in this event. The Dutchman of the Wielerploeg Groot Amsterdam team appeared very happy with the performance and the result achieved, as after the success in Fier, among other things, he declared: "Today (yesterday) went well, because it was not a very strong stage. I just had to defend the champion's jersey for success. I like Albania, the weather is good. This is my third time doing this race. I like it here a lot and I hope to come back again", said the winner of the 83rd edition of the Cycling Circle of Albania.

De Fabritiis: Not in the best condition, but I believed
A year ago he won the white jersey of the best young rider, while this edition Gabriele De Fabritiis closes with a symbolic celebration, winning the fifth stage, Vlorë-Fier, in the Cycling Circle. After the race, the Albanian cyclist spoke about the activity and the victory recorded in Fier, as among other things he said: "I feel very good, it was a very difficult lap. The whole race went well even though I was not in the best physical condition, I believed in the team and myself. It was not a bad rivalry, but a sporting one", declared the Italian-Albanian Gabriele De Fabritiis./ PANORAMASPORT.AL
