"The corrupt are using cryptocurrencies to hide money"/ Journalist

Journalist Poli Hoxha, invited to the "Studio24" show, spoke about SPAK's in-depth investigations into the assets of senior officials who have been arrested or are being investigated, emphasizing the crucial role of the United States in uncovering schemes to hide illegal assets.

According to Hoxha, the lack of an extradition agreement with Dubai makes it difficult to prosecute some wanted individuals, which has led to direct US intervention. He added that US authorities have also assisted in identifying financial transactions in foreign banks, including those in Switzerland.

The journalist stressed that investigators have concluded that, if their assets are not seized, people involved in corruption face prison without hesitation. According to him, the ways of hiding money have become significantly more sophisticated, including the use of cryptocurrencies and complex financial schemes.

Hoxha cited as an example a case related to a person close to Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who allegedly had to share a sum of 3 million euros. According to him, the money was channeled through the purchase of a functional garage in a European country, of equal value, being used as a cover for the legalization of the amount. The property was then registered through a company, whose name was changed and transferred to an “offshore” structure.

According to the journalist, most of the assets of corrupt Albanian officials are hidden through offshore schemes, where SPAK has legal restrictions to intervene directly. In these cases, according to Hoxha, it is the American authorities that intervene, secure the data and make it available to Albanian justice structures.
