Won 8-0, but Flamengo unexpectedly fires coach

Flamengo have officially sacked coach Filipe Luís, just hours after their 8-0 win over Madureira. The emphatic triumph, which secured qualification for the Carioca Championship final, was not enough to change the decision of the club's directors, who had previously decided to dismiss the Brazilian coach.
According to sources close to the club, the reason for this drastic move is the weakest start to the season in the last decade. Flamengo lost two consecutive finals, first the Brazilian Super Cup to Corinthians, and then the Recopa Sudamericana against Lanús.
These results strained relations between the technical staff and the board of directors, leading to the final separation.
Filipe Luís was appointed coach in September 2024 and had a promising start. In 99 games as Flamengo coach, he managed to win six trophies, including the Copa Libertadores, leaving behind a considerable record of success.
