On Monday night, when the news broke that Enkelejd Alibeaj and Dashamir Shehi had registered their parties as a coalition, it was also learned that the long negotiations with the DP-Euroatlantic Party, to run in the May 11 elections with a joint list of candidates, had failed.
The news created a lot of confusion among Democrats and sympathizers of the forces positioned against Berishism in the DP, as the expectation was that the Euro-Atlantics and "Right 1912", despite the divisions created after the loss of the seal in Apel, would be together at least for the May 11 elections.
But despite this, the day after (March 4, 2025), the registration of their own coalition with the CEC, Alibeaj and Rezart Kthupi made a blow as unexpected as "strange" against the Basha group and all the Democrats, who treat Sali Berisha and his Foltore as usurpers of the Democratic Party. Alibeaj and Kthupi filed a request with the High Court, (They are signatories of the recourse previously made by them on behalf of the DP with Alibeaj as vice-president and Kthupi as the party's lawyer), according to which they withdraw from the legal battle with Berisha for the legitimacy of the DP.
The reason for this act, according to them (which actually serves Berisha only politically), was that now they have their own party and have no interest in continuing the legal battle for the legitimacy of the DP, which is taking place in the Supreme Court. After this news was published in the media, there was an immediate reaction from the DP-Euroatlantic.
After assuring the democratic supporters that the effect of Alibeaj-Kthupi's act in the Supreme Court is Zero and the battle with Berisha continues, among other clarifications, there was also talk of a threat to the Euro-Atlantics, if the Alibeaj-Kthupi group were not accepted for their conditions for a coalition, or more precisely; Basha's renunciation of the Euro-Atlantic identity as a political force in these elections. But what was this threat that was carried out one day before the expiration of the deadline at the CEC for the registration of coalitions? It was precisely this that became a reality from Alibeaj-Kthupi this Tuesday afternoon: Since you do not meet our conditions for a coalition, then we will withdraw the lawsuit for the seal in the trial against Berisha in the Supreme Court.
