Interior Minister: Zvërnec project on private property registered before we came to power, private guards will be prosecuted

The Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, has reacted to yesterday's protest in Zvërnec.
He says that the project is private and the government has not donated land.
Reaction:
Meanwhile, he condemns the violence exercised by private guards and welcomes the response of the State Police.
"1. The Zvërnec project is related to entirely private land and the Albanian government has neither donated land nor has any land to donate - not only because we have never donated land to anyone, but also because in this case that property was returned to the owners and registered as a mortgage, years before we came to government.
2. If the property is private, private property guards have no right to use force against anyone and not only should they as individuals be prosecuted, as they are being prosecuted, but also the administrative investigation for their company for total inability to exercise the authorized activity should be closed as soon as possible.
3. I applaud the quick reaction of the General Directorate of the State Police to suspend local leaders and place the chain of command under investigation, because not only was the scandalous behavior of the private guards unacceptable, but also the unjustifiable indifference of the police present in the country.
The crackdown within the ranks of the State Police, which began in Saranda and continued in Vlora, will be a constant in the work of our structures in this new chapter of their leadership. The blue uniforms are and must be in any case, guarantors of legal order, where the protection of public or private property is an essential part.
But they must also guarantee the inviolability of citizens' trust in the police uniform, therefore any deviation from these principles will be dealt with through close cooperation between the police management structures and the Police Supervision Agency.
