France calls for urgent UN Security Council meeting: Israel is violating ceasefire in Lebanon

France has requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council after Israeli forces occupied the iconic Beaufort Fort in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli flag now flies, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced.
"I requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council because, although we recognize in Israel, as in every country, the right to legitimate defense, defense against Hezbollah attacks (…) nothing can justify the prolongation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon and the (Israeli) invasion ever deeper into Lebanese territory," Jean-Noel Barrot told BFMTV.
"This is a significant mistake by Israel because this advance on Lebanese territory not only contradicts Israel's commitments, since we have had a ceasefire in Lebanon since April 17, but also international law," the French Foreign Minister said.
