On May 11, citizens will elect a new parliament, with a total of 11 political parties competing for 140 seats in parliament.
In the past elections, the SP received 74 mandates, the DP 59 mandates, the LSI 4 and the PSD 3 mandates.
Coalitions were the only innovation in the 2021 elections, where with a decision with new deputies, the SP managed to finally eliminate pre-election coalitions.
The result of the PS vote against the DP together with its allies was close in votes (around 30 thousand votes), but the formula of the LSI's emergence with separate candidates only resulted in the capture of 4 MPs, even though the votes were 100 thousand.
But the 2025 elections have several innovations, starting with the emigrant vote, monitoring by SPAK, and numerous political alternatives besides the SP and DP that come out with significant percentages in the polls.
Thus, we can mention that the former leader of the DP, Lulzim Basha , is competing with the Euro-Atlantic Democrats, and also outside the DP will be the leader of the LZHK, Dashamir Shehi. Likewise, Adriatik Lapaj has formalized an agreement with the Nismë Thurje Initiative, while Agron Shehaj and Arlind Qorri have entered with their parties Mundësia and Lëvizja Bashkë.
There is one woman in the race, she is Elena Kocaqi. In 2021, the only woman leader of a political force was Jozefina Topalli.
And Tom Doshi's PSD is competing alone just like in 2021.
Part of the DP will also be Meta's PL, Idrizi's PDIU, Vangjel Dule's PBDNJ and Fatmir Mediu with PR.
On the other hand, the SP goes alone without any party in the coalition.
In 2021, the number of voters on the list was 3,588,869.
Those who voted were around 1.6 million, in 5,199 polling centers.
On May 11, there are 3,713,716 voters and 5,225 polling stations eligible to vote .
For the first time, immigrant voting will bring about 250,000 more voters.
Emigrant voting is happening for the first time.
Another innovation is the additional element that is monitoring the elections, which is the SPAK body .
The special structure has delegated persons to monitor the progress of the electoral process in the 12 regions of the country.
This element is expected to have an impact on the efficiency of the elections, which have often been contested by the parties for irregularities, vote buying or influence.
