Student protests in France, Interior Minister submits resignation to Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron has rejected Interior Minister Laurent Nunez's request to resign following widespread unrest over the weekend, the presidential office at the Elysee Palace said on Monday.
The youth demonstrations have been fueled by public anger over rising living costs, declining public services and also the state of schools.
Macron said Nunez should stay to ensure the chain of command is maintained within the police and security forces, and has also asked Nunez to develop new approaches to dealing with robbers as soon as possible.
Nationwide demonstrations erupted into riots on Saturday, with a town hall burned, shops looted and buildings covered in graffiti, as violent groups clashed with police in several cities.
More clashes also broke out in Paris and Marseille on Sunday, where police intervened to prevent attempts to loot businesses.
