Italian helicopter crash in Bosnia kills 4 people, what caused the accident

A possible technical fault is being seen as one of the main clues to explain the crash of an Italian forces helicopter in Bosnia, which killed four people. However, investigators have not yet reached an official conclusion, while a full examination is expected to take time.

In the first hours after the event, Italian authorities focused on identifying the victims and notifying their families, aiming to prevent the tragic news from reaching them through media reports.

According to preliminary information, the pilots managed to be pulled out of the aircraft alive, while 11 injured people are receiving medical assistance. Italian government representatives have described their survival as an extremely rare event.

Experts have also been drawn to video footage posted on social media showing the moments before the accident. After analyzing the video, aviation specialists have raised suspicions that one of the helicopter's two engines may have suffered a serious defect, even an interruption or change in the direction of rotation.

From the recorded sequences it appears that the helicopter begins to behave erratically, losing stability and control in the air. This is a preliminary hypothesis, which still needs to be confirmed by technical investigations.

The helicopter involved in the accident was a CH-47F Chinook, an advanced model manufactured by the American company Boeing in collaboration with the Italian Leonardo.

Another element being examined is the weather conditions at the time of the crash. Initial data indicate that the weather conditions did not present any particular difficulties, with clouds and winds not exceeding 5 kilometers per hour. This makes it more important to analyze the possibilities of a mechanical or technical problem.

The first information about the accident was transmitted to Rome by the command of EUFOR, the European Union mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is currently led by Italy.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that the victims were not all members of the military forces. Two of the people who lost their lives were Red Cross personnel.

Italy has more than 200 troops deployed to the EUFOR mission, where they carry out various tasks on the ground and in the air, including aerial surveillance and military intelligence activities.

At the moment, the technical defect remains one of the main lines of investigation, but the exact cause of the tragedy will be determined only after a full analysis of the evidence and flight data.
