The DP is ready to rehabilitate Vučić, even if he does not accept

From "Rama, Vučić's brother" they went to "Vučić was much more democratic" and therefore his ouster by vote was possible.

Yesterday Vučić was proof of Rama's autocracy, while today the deposed Vučić became proof of Serbian democracy. Tomorrow, if necessary, they will declare him the founder of pluralism. The DP is ready to rehabilitate Vučić as well, just so that he does not accept the need to change Berisha.

But the latest international rankings show that Albania ranks ahead of Serbia on key indicators of liberal democracy, the rule of law, political and civil liberties, media freedom, and perceptions of corruption. They do not deny state capture in Albania, but they show that Serbia is worse.

If it accepts that even an autocrat in a country more entrenched than Albania can be defeated by vote, the DP loses its favorite alibi for its electoral failures, for its inability to build a hopeful alternative, for its lack of moral superiority over power, and, above all, for its lack of will to pave the way for a new leadership.

This makes the DP's responsibility even more blatant. If Serbia managed to build a winning alternative, why can't the DP? The answer is that the DP demands a change of power without accepting a change of itself. It denounces Rama's monopoly over the state, while defending Berisha's monopoly over the opposition. It demands rotation in the government, but treats rotation at the head of the party as betrayal. It claims to represent the future, while offering Albanians the return of a leadership of three decades, with two previous mandates in power.

Instead of building a new political offer, appealing to the dissatisfied, and creating a majority for change, it spends energy maintaining control over the opposition and delegitimizing any alternative that could compete with the leadership and undermine the opposition's monopoly.

To preserve one man's seat, the alternative of an entire country is held hostage. Today, the DP uses the capture of the state to justify the capture of the opposition, while the capture of the opposition has become one of the strongest guarantees of the continuation of the capture of the state.

Thus, Rama and Berisha can continue to appear as irreconcilable enemies, while politically remaining indispensable to each other's survival.
