Did Dua Lipa copy her song? Soni Malaj: We will contact her representatives

You've probably heard Dua Lipa's new song, "Dance The Night", part of the "Barbie" album, but have you noticed its similarity to an Albanian song? Maybe you don't, but TikTok doesn't get away with anything.

A well-known tiktoker has noticed that its melody is very similar to that of the song "Fouristrada", which was published many years ago by the girl group "Spirit Voice".

The similarity has been confirmed by the former member of the group, Soni Malaj, who has republished the tiktoker's post, where both songs are together and their melody can be clearly heard.

"Prive.al" has contacted the singer and the composer of the song regarding the situation.

"The song was composed by Alban Karabashi, with lyrics by Alqi Bonjak in 1997 and performed by 'Spirit Voice' in those years. In the chorus, the song has a great similarity, but it needs a real analysis from the musical side with a staff of Albanian and foreign professionals to reach a conclusion", they said.

Asked if they had been contacted by Dua's manager, they said:

"We have not been contacted under any circumstances, not even in a meeting with the makers of Dua Lipa's project. The intensity on TikTok is a real indication that we (Alban Karabashi and Soni Malaj as the leader of the group) take the issue seriously."

Among other things, they revealed the steps they will follow for the former hit "Fuoristrada":

"The first step we will follow is the contact between us and Dua Lipa's representatives to really know their indication in the realization. Was "Fuoristrada" taken as a musical reference since it was composed over 25 years ago, or is it an artistic coincidence? All options are open and to be clarified first through mediation and conversation with all parties. Then clear and professional verification from our side regarding the composition. And finally, we will turn to a law firm that has the right of international representation for "Fuoristrada", they said.
