The tender procedure for the construction of the new commercial port in Porto Romano has been canceled, after the only company remaining in the competition did not submit a financial offer.

The news is confirmed by BalkanWeb.

The company in question is Archirodon, which failed to submit its financial bid within the deadline set on March 9, causing the procurement process to be interrupted. The port scandal was first reported by the investigative show "Vetting" on News24.

The tender had an estimated value of around 400 million euros and aimed to build a new commercial port in Porto Romano, an important project for the port infrastructure and economic development of the country.

The decision to suspend comes after the request and continuous insistence of the US. The head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tirana, Grant Van Cleeve, a few days ago addressed a public letter to Edi Rama and senior government officials, regarding the Porto Romano tender.

Van Cleeve considers this project as a once-in-a-century decision and requests the postponement of the competition because, according to him, the existing project deprives Albania of the chance to be competitive in the region. Meanwhile, SPAK has launched investigations regarding the tender procedure, to clarify any inaccuracies or violations during the procurement process.
