Trial against Franc Çopja, lawyers: They are not ordinary criminals, but

"You are not trying ordinary criminals, but soldiers of a private war,"  the two lawyers declared on Monday in Brussels at the trial of Franc Çopja, Mikael Qosja and seven other defendants accused of the murder of Ardit Spahiu, the Albanian executed in Molenbeek on November 27, 2020.

According to lawyer Virginie Taelman, the modus operandi for the murder of Ardit Spahiu is similar to other murders committed in Albania after the start of the conflict between the Alibey clan and the Çopja and Qosja clans in 2017-2018.

"Cars, men, guns and they open fire. It's always the same thing, here or there," she declared, adding that Spahiu was killed because of his proximity to the Alibey clan.

On Monday, the civil side asked the jury to find Franc Gergely and Mikael Qosja guilty of ordering the murder.

They are considered the two "organizing minds" who operated thousands of kilometers away from Brussels and, according to the civil party, planned the "methodical murder" of Spahiu.

The lawyers argued that "brute force was not enough" and that "betrayal of a friend" was necessary, a role played by Elton Roci.

Using excerpts from Sky ECC conversations as evidence, Taelman described Franc Gergely, known as Çopja, as the "engine of murder" and "the architect who signed the plans from his ivory tower," motivated by revenge, ego, and his own arrogance.

While Mikael Qosja was described as the "chief of the construction site", who oversaw the "management of informants".
