Trial for the murder of Ardit Spahiu/ Çopja and Murataj challenge the

The trial for the murder of Ardit Spahiu, an event that occurred on November 27, 2020 in Molenbeek, continues at the Serious Crimes Court in Brussels, while there are clashes over the credibility of the evidence presented by the prosecution.

According to foreign media, in the last hearing, the defense of the accused Elvis Murataj requested the declaration of innocence of their client, questioning the descriptions of witnesses, DNA evidence and intercepted communications through Sky ECC. The lawyers argued that Murataj had no role in the assassination attempt on Spahiu.

According to them, the physical description given by direct witnesses of the three people in the said car is incompatible with the profile of Elvis Murataj.

Meanwhile, Franc Gergely, known as Franc Çopja, has also pleaded not guilty, considering the prosecution's case unreliable and unsupported by concrete evidence. He is among the four defendants who have contested the charges, along with Elton Roçi, Blerim Mamutaj and Elvis Murataj.

According to the investigation, Ardit Spahiu was shot 18 times with two firearms, in what the prosecution considers an act of revenge between Albanian clans. Two other suspected assassins, Flobenc Meçja and Endrit Sadedini, are not present in this process, as they are imprisoned in Albania for other criminal cases.

The trial is expected to continue with further sessions, where closing arguments will be heard for each of the defendants, including Franc Çopjan, while the jury will have to assess whether the evidence presented is sufficient to convict.
