Sentenced to 10 years in prison by Italy for ties to Neapolitan clans, Albanian extradited on a flight from Tirana

A 42-year-old Albanian man has been arrested in North Macedonia and extradited to Italy, after a decade on the run, where he faces 9 years and 10 months in prison.
He was captured in May of this year and returned to Italy in recent hours, accompanied by personnel from the International Police Cooperation Service.
The Albanian had been wanted by the State Police for years and was found after a complex investigative effort coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office and carried out by the Caserta Flying Squad in collaboration with the Central Operations Service.
The transfer to Italy was carried out on a flight from Albania. Upon arrival in Italy, the 42-year-old was taken into custody by Italian authorities to serve his final sentence.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the wanted man had been missing in Italy since 2016. The investigations allowed them to track his movements throughout the Balkans and eventually find him as he tried to cross the border between Albania and North Macedonia, at the Bllata crossing point.
It was at that very moment that the arrest was carried out by the competent authorities, as part of international cooperation between police forces.
Investigations carried out over the years have highlighted the 42-year-old's role within a criminal organization with deep roots in the Caserta area. The organization, made up of individuals from the Balkans, had its operational base in the Agro Aversano area, specifically between the municipalities of Trentola Ducenta and Parete.
According to court documents, between 2010 and 2016, the group allegedly carried out numerous armed robberies and extortion incidents in various Italian regions, in some cases even using weapons of war.
The criminal activities for which he was accused led to his final conviction for conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and extortion, with a total sentence of 9 years and 10 months in prison, Italian media reports.
The operation represents the culmination of a long investigative effort that involved State Police officers both at the domestic level and through international cooperation channels, allowing them to track down and bring to justice a person considered to be of high profile within the criminal organization.
