The Tirana Prosecution Office has requested the confiscation of the assets of the family members of Sajmir Alimehmeti , sentenced in the United States to 22 years in prison for criminal offenses related to terrorism.

According to the prosecution, Alimehmeti was convicted of providing or attempting to provide material support to individuals or groups involved in terrorist activities, as well as for making a false declaration for passport purposes.

Meanwhile, in Albania, he is currently being investigated for the criminal offense of "laundering the proceeds of crime or criminal activity", while the property proceeding was registered during 2025, following information received from the Directorate for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crime.

From the verifications carried out on his family members, specifically his parents ZA and VA, it results that they have carried out financial transactions and economic actions of considerable value in second-tier banks in Albania, which, according to the prosecution, are not justified by the income declared over the years.

The family members have claimed that the assets were created from rent and savings, but have not presented documentation to prove the legal source of this income. According to the investigation, the monetary values do not match the declared income and are suspected of not having a legal origin.

At the conclusion of the property investigation, the prosecution requested the confiscation of several bank accounts, specifically:

Accounts of citizen ZA with a balance of Lek 39.49, USD 4.74, as well as deposits in the amount of USD 50,109.56 and Lek 3,862,244.93;

VA Citizenship Accounts with a balance of Euro 15,001.09; and

Accounts of citizens ZA and VA with a balance of Lek 11,734,250.00.
