Head of ILD, Artur Metani, visit to the USA, meetings with the Department of Justice

The High Inspector of Justice, Artur Metani, has conducted an official visit to the United States of America, where he held meetings at the Department of Justice and with representatives of the institutions of the American justice system.
During the visit, Metani discussed the role of the High Inspector of Justice in Albania and the importance of an independent, yet accountable judiciary, as a key element for the functioning of democracy.
At the OPDAT office, Mr. Metani met with Deputy Director George Huber and Regional Director for Europe Pragna Soni. During these meetings, the Senior Inspector of Justice was accompanied by OPDAT’s Resident Legal Advisor in Albania, Dave Backman, as well as Inspector Mr. Periand Teta.
The discussions focused on increasing standards of integrity and professionalism in the judicial system in Albania, as essential elements in the fight against organized crime and corruption. In this context, the High Inspector of Justice shared views on the importance of strengthening inspection and accountability mechanisms for judges and prosecutors, as well as the need to guarantee high ethical and professional standards.
Metani also emphasized that the functioning of an independent, impartial and accountable judicial system constitutes a key element in guaranteeing the rule of law and strengthening democracy in Albania. The interlocutors appreciated the progress achieved and expressed their willingness to continue inter-institutional support and cooperation in terms of technical assistance, as well as the exchange of best practices.
These meetings constitute an important step in deepening international cooperation and advancing reforms in the justice system, with the aim of increasing public trust and strengthening justice institutions in Albania.
