The head of Tirana Water Supply and Sewerage, Skerdi Drenova, has been dismissed from his post after numerous and repeated problems with the drinking water supply in the capital.
The decision was made after continuous complaints from citizens, who have been reporting serious water shortages in their homes for months.
The problem has worsened over time and, according to citizens, has not improved even during the winter period, although the country has had heavy rainfall. This has raised serious questions, especially considering the fact that Lake Bovilla, the main source of water supply for Tirana, has been full and without any visible problems in its capacity.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has publicly expressed strong criticism of the management of Tirana Water and Sewerage, stating that the situation is a result of mismanagement and a lack of institutional accountability.
It has not yet been announced who will replace him at the head of the institution, while it is expected that in the coming days there will be a concrete plan to solve the water crisis in Tirana.
