A 59-year-old Greek man has been arrested after being sentenced to life in prison for the 1997 murder of a 9-year-old boy.

Kostandin Nishku alias Baki Duzha alias HV, 59 years old, born in Gramsh, was sentenced in 1998 to life imprisonment for the criminal offense of "Murder due to special qualities", he was hiding from the authorities in Greece, where he used a forged Albanian identity (HV).

POLICE NOTIFICATION

State Police/Continues, thanks to close partnership with international counterparts, the operation codenamed “The wanted”. This phase of the operation, the result of several years of cooperation between the Department for International Relations of the DPSSh, Interpol Tirana, the Liaison Officer of the Albanian Police in Athens, the Facial Identification and Comparison Sector (Facial Recognition) and Interpol Athens.

A citizen sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 9-year-old boy in March 1997, on the grounds that the boy's uncle had killed his brother and escaped from the penitentiary, has been arrested in Greece. This citizen was hiding in Greece, using a false Albanian identity.

Within this phase of the international operation "The wanted", the operational coordination carried out through the Albanian Police Liaison Officer in Athens, the intensive exchange of information between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Athens and several years of verifications, enabled the localization, capture and arrest with the aim of extradition to Albania, of the citizen declared internationally wanted:

-Kostandin Nishku alias Baki Duzha alias HV, 59 years old, born in Gramsh.

The 59-year-old, who was sentenced in 1998 to life imprisonment for the criminal offense of "Murder due to special qualities", was hiding from the authorities in Greece, where he was using a forged Albanian identity (HV).

In March 1997, citizen Kostandin Nishku alias Baki Duzha alias HV and citizen RK went armed to the house of citizen KB and searched for the latter's brother, citizen VB, who had escaped from the Penitentiary Institution where he was serving a sentence for the murder of the brother of citizen Kostandin Nishku alias Baki Duzha alias HV, in 1993. After citizen KB and his family did not respond to the 59-year-old's request regarding the whereabouts of citizen VB, citizen Kostandin Nishku alias Baki Duzha alias HV shot and killed citizen KB's 9-year-old son.

The identification of this citizen was made possible as a result of comparing his photograph in 1997 and the photograph on the false passport obtained in 2013.

Cooperation between INTERPOL's counterpart structures continues to finalize the procedure for the extradition of this citizen to Albania.
