Escorts "invade" prisons, Minister Lamallari: I have information about special meetings, I am waiting for verifications

The Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, was asked about the alarm of the Durrës Prosecution Office regarding serious violations in prisons, where reported visits to health services may have been used for other purposes.

"Yes, it is true. I have been made aware of this information. These visits, under the pretext of health visits, were not reported to the General Directorate of Prisons, so I have requested the dismissal of the relevant director," declared Minister Lamallari.

According to him, the Internal Control Service has been instructed to be present in every Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions (IEVP), in order to prevent and crack down on these practices.

"All information that will be made available will be treated with maximum seriousness. I will seek comprehensive cooperation with law enforcement institutions," the minister stressed.

This development adds to concerns about the management of the prison system and the effectiveness of control mechanisms, at a time when penitentiary institutions have repeatedly been at the center of criticism for security, corruption and internal abuses, which culminated in the escape of Altin Ndoc, arrested for a number of murders.
