Journalist affected by tear gas at protest: Police blocked me in the smoke, consequences could have been fatal

Albanian-American journalist Arian Asimi spoke about the protest held the day before by the opposition, recounting a difficult moment he personally experienced during the clash with tear gas and incidents on the ground.
Invited to the show "Oponencje" on News24, Asimi said that he had initially asked the police officers not to use gas, then moved to a corner near the Parliament. According to him, at that moment a Molotov cocktail exploded near his feet, while two people who were with him ran away.
He added that he took cover behind a tree, while a police vehicle using water cannon also passed by the area, leaving him trapped between smoke and tear gas. The journalist stated that at that moment he felt serious difficulty breathing, despite having a wet mask.
According to him, the situation lasted about two minutes and, in his personal assessment, if it had lasted longer, the consequences could have been fatal. However, Asim said that he would participate in the protests again.
He accused the police of the created situation and also expressed criticism of Prime Minister Edi Rama, linking political responsibility to the event.
