The Kansas City Department of Aviation told the Daily Mail: "The Kansas City Department of Aviation is aware of a situation at Kansas City International Airport (KCI)."
"As a precautionary measure, the department has evacuated portions of the airport terminal. Airport Police are working with the FBI to determine any potential threats," the airport statement said.
A KCI spokesperson told Fox 4 KC News that flights going to the airport are still landing, but no departures are allowed.
Meanwhile, hundreds of travelers posted videos and messages on social media about what was happening at the airport, with some claiming that bomb-sniffing dogs were conducting checks in the terminal and corridors.
