US blockade of Hormuz forces Chinese tanker to turn back

The naval blockade announced by President Donald Trump has marked the first operational success in the Strait of Hormuz, forcing vessels that attempted to break the siege to turn back.
According to the latest navigation data, the Chinese tanker "Rich Starry", sanctioned by the US, was forced to turn back this Wednesday after failing to cross the security cordon set up by US forces, Reuters reports.
US Central Command announced via social media that during the first 24 hours of the blockade, no ship managed to pass beyond the restricted area.
"During the first 24 hours, no ship managed to break through the US blockade. Six vessels obeyed the instructions of our forces to turn back and re-enter Iranian ports," the official statement said.
The blockade, which began after the failure of peace talks in Islamabad, has created great uncertainty for shipping companies and war insurers.
Maritime traffic in this vital area has fallen to a tiny fraction compared to the over 130 daily crossings recorded before the start of the war between Israel, the US and Iran on February 28.
According to experts, Iran has storage capacities that can withstand the interruption of exports for about two to three months, if the current production of 3.5 million barrels per day continues to be maintained at these levels.
While ships bound for Iran are being blocked, movements to Iraq appear to be being allowed under supervision. The giant tanker Alicia, despite being sanctioned for past ties to Iran, has been allowed to enter the Gulf as its destination is Iraq to load oil.
Also, the ship "Agios Fanourios I", after a failure in the first attempt on Sunday, has managed to enter the Gulf with the aim of loading oil from Basra on behalf of a refinery in Vietnam, indicating that the blockade is specifically targeting Iranian ports and goods.
