A man was shot dead by police at Milton Keynes Central train station in the UK at midday, causing panic among passengers who heard the gunshots.

Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police were called at 12:55pm to reports of an armed man in the area. The station remained closed for several hours, while surrounding roads were cordoned off by police.

Armed officers immediately intervened and asked the man to surrender, but then shots were heard.

Witnesses reported a chaotic scene with a large police presence, including a helicopter and police dog units.

"I heard a shot while waiting for the bus," one witness wrote on social media, while another added: "There are a lot of police and ambulances everywhere."

Despite efforts to save his life, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:44 p.m. Authorities said there is no further threat to the public.

The incident is now under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

"We have launched an independent investigation to examine all the circumstances of this event, including the actions of the police," an IOPC spokesperson said.

Although there are no indications of terrorist links, authorities are still investigating the motives for the incident.
