Part of international drug cartel/ 45 arrest warrants for Albanians, Italians

New details have emerged regarding the operation conducted today in several areas of Italy.

Italian authorities committed to executing 45 arrest warrants against Italian, Albanian and North African citizens.

The arrest warrants were issued against them because they are part of international drug trafficking mafia organizations from Latin America, North Africa and the Netherlands. The investigations revealed that the two groups had weapons at their disposal and managed their business relying on encrypted communications and support from the most well-known mafia organizations.

Of the 45 arrests, 30 are in prison, 12 are under house arrest and 3 are under house arrest. The suspects are accused of being responsible for international drug trafficking from South America, North Africa and the Netherlands. The operation was coordinated by the Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Brescia District and the investigations were carried out with the Central Operative Service (SCO).

The first criminal group in the province of Brescia managed international drug trafficking by importing cocaine from Colombia with the collaboration of a local contact linked to the “Clan del Golfo”, a Colombian criminal organization. Instead, the hashish arrived from Morocco, passing through Spain, where one of the fugitives had found refuge.

The second criminal group had family ties to the powerful 'Ndrangheta Nirta and Strangio di San Luca families, as well as Albanian collaborators. They had set up their headquarters in Gussago, in the province of Brescia, transforming it into a storage center for drugs coming from abroad, destined for distribution throughout the country.

During the investigations launched in 2022 and with a total of 87 suspects, 19 people were arrested in flagrante delicto and approximately 135 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of hashish and 3 kilograms of marijuana were seized, as well as 2 caliber, 45 revolver pistols with serial numbers. Overall, the trafficking of approximately 2,0000 kilograms of cocaine, 1,500 kilograms of hashish and 700 kilograms of marijuana was confirmed.

The drugs, transported by sea and road, including by companies, were found in apartments, cars, in one case inside one of the tanks of an articulated truck for transporting milk and in another circumstance in a quarry in the province of Lecce.

In April 2023, in the village of the province of Reggio Calabria, a clandestine refinery for cutting and packaging cocaine was discovered and seized, an activity carried out by Colombian nationals, who arrived specifically and equipped with a dedicated recipe to guarantee the quality of the processing of the pure substance. On this occasion, in addition to the arrest in flagrante delicto of a Colombian national and an Italian, about 34 kilograms of cocaine with the logos “888”, “Cartier” and with the paw icon and about 11 kilograms of cutters were found and seized.
