Gaza peace plan: Hamas rejects disarmament

According to the United States special envoy, Steve Witkoff, there is progress in implementing the peace plan for Gaza presented by US President Donald Trump.
In a post on the X network, Witkoff announced that the first phase of the plan has yielded concrete results, including expanded humanitarian aid, the return of some hostages, a partial withdrawal of Israeli forces and a reduction in the level of hostilities. The statement came a day after preliminary talks with representatives from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey.
According to him, further talks are expected to take place in the coming weeks, with the aim of advancing the second phase of the plan, which envisages Israel's gradual withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the start of the reconstruction process of the territory destroyed by the war.
However, the main sticking points remain the return of the body of the last Israeli hostage still in Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas, demands that the Palestinian organization has so far rejected.
A ceasefire has been in place since October 10, but deadly incidents have continued despite this. In a joint statement, the US, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey called on Israel and Hamas to show restraint and respect their commitments.
"We call on all parties to cooperate with monitoring mechanisms and avoid further escalation," the statement released by Witkoff said.
