New round of US-Iran talks in Geneva. Is a nuclear deal possible?

Talks between the United States and Iran will resume on Thursday, February 26, in Geneva. The news was confirmed by the Foreign Ministry of Oman, which has been mediating contacts between Washington and Tehran.

Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi stated that negotiations are taking place "with positive momentum", with the aim of reaching an agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue.

Even Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said there is a "real possibility" for a diplomatic solution.

In an interview with CBS News, he stressed that a meeting with US envoy Steve Witkoff is possible and that Iran is working on the elements of an agreement.

However, Araghchi underlined that Iran, as a sovereign state, retains the right to decide on its uranium enrichment program.

He added that any military action against Iran would be met with a response, warning that potential targets could be US bases in the region.

This new round of negotiations is taking place in a climate of tension, after US President Donald Trump has declared that he is considering military options against Iran.

However, signals from both sides indicate that the door to a diplomatic agreement remains open.
