Rama and Berisha together in Student City, photo shows the rally of January 4, 1991, with Enver Hoxha in the background
Sali Berisha and Edi Rama have had their joint public appearances since the early days of democracy.
It was January 4, 1991, when the Democratic Party, founded just a few days earlier, was holding a rally at the Student City Cinema.
The future leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, was one of the speakers at that rally, but Edi Rama also approached the microphone.
Photographer Ali Begeja, who was nearby during the rally, photographed the two of them as they spoke.
"The PD held rallies all over Tirana, with intellectuals, in front of the stadium. Rama was there with the intellectuals. Rama joined Berisha? We were surprised, he spoke with a lot of anger. We said: Let someone come and either kill him or arrest him. It looked in the photo that Rama had prepared something and read it," recalls photographer Begeja in his interview for Top Channel.
Also historic is the photograph of Berisha speaking at one of the work centers in Tirana, with a photograph of Enver Hoxha placed in the background.
Photographer Begeja remembers that photo this way: "Berisha would go to job centers and call on workers to remove Enver's photo themselves, and that's why it's that photo," he says.
