Referees under fire again in Serie A, controversy erupts over Parma's goal against Milan a week after Inter-Juve

Just a week after the heated debate over the refereeing in the Inter-Juventus match, the San Siro is back at the centre of controversy. This time, the focus is on the goal that decided the match between Milan and Parma, scored by Mariano Troilo in the final minutes.
With about 10 minutes to go, Parma won a corner kick. Emanuele Valeri took it towards the far post, where Troilo deflected his header past Mike Maignan.
Initially, referee Marco Piccinini disallowed the goal for an alleged block by Valenti on the Milan goalkeeper. According to the referee, there was a foul on Maignan and, based on the protocol, the situation did not appear to be a “clear and obvious error” that would require intervention.
However, after the VAR signal, Piccinini was called to the monitor to review the action. The footage shows that Valenti positioned himself behind the French goalkeeper, blocking his trajectory, but without a direct collision. It was Maignan who, in an attempt to chase the ball, collided with the Parma defender.
After review, the referee decided to change the decision and award the goal, assessing that there was no clear foul by Valenti.
The debate doesn't end there. At the moment of the header, Troilo appears to place his hands on Davide Bartesaghi's back, creating another questionable situation. Footage suggests a slight support before the decisive deflection, but this part of the action was not clearly addressed in the referee's final explanation.
Piccinini, in his communication at the stadium, focused only on the contact between Valenti and Maignan, arguing that there was no foul against the goalkeeper. There was no public explanation for the episode between Troilo and Bartesaghi.
The decision has sparked numerous reactions, with Milan feeling penalized, while Parma defends the legitimacy of the goal. Another evening at the San Siro that leaves behind more questions than answers on the interpretation of key episodes.
