Landslide in Sicily, over 1,000 people evacuated from their homes

More than 1,000 people have been forced to flee their homes after a large landslide hit the town of Nisemi, in eastern Sicily, due to bad weather.
The unusual wave of extreme weather that hit the island in recent days caused a very wide landslide, the front of which extends over a distance of more than four kilometers.
In the city of Nisemi, authorities have declared a "red zone", where entry is prohibited, while municipal leaders do not rule out the possibility that the number of evacuations will increase in the coming hours.
Several homes located near the landslide area have suffered significant damage due to subsidence and instability of the terrain.
Thanks to the timely intervention and mobilization of the authorities, no injuries were reported.
As a result of the landslide, one of the two main roads connecting the city, with around 30,000 inhabitants, to the rest of Sicily has been closed.
Residents who were forced to leave their homes are temporarily sheltering in a closed gym in Nisemi or with relatives and friends.
