Greece "shakes"! Panic in Ioannina, tremors are also felt in Albania

A strong earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck in the early hours of Sunday, 12 km east of Leptokaria, Thesprot, Greece. The tremors were felt at 05:32 local Greek time.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the focal depth is 12.9 kilometers. Four minutes later, a magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred in the same area, located about 20 km from Ioannina, near the border with Albania.
The tremor was felt especially in the Ionian Islands and Thessaly, but also in southern Albania.
In statements to ERT, Professor Efthymios Lekkas said that initial data indicate that it is a fairly strong earthquake at a relatively shallow depth.
The area has a history, he added, noting that earthquakes of this magnitude give no warning. For his part, the deputy mayor of the Civil Protection municipality in Ioannina said there was no sign of damage. In the city of Ioannina, many people took to the streets, while there was also a power outage that was quickly restored in the city, although in areas outside it it lasted longer.
