President Donald Trump's administration has announced the exemption of smartphones and computers from new tariffs that will be applied to Chinese goods.
This decision comes at a time when concerns about rising prices for electronic devices have increased, due to their mass production in China.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol announced Friday that smartphones and computers, as well as a number of electronic devices and components, will be exempt from the 10% global tariff that the Trump administration had planned to impose on most imported goods. The 125% tariff on Chinese goods will also be eliminated for these products.
This decision came as a result of pressure from American technology companies, which had warned that high tariffs could lead to price increases for their products and would have a direct impact on consumers.
