Scandal in the Netherlands, the prime minister is suspected of having given

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof will be summoned before the District Court in Rotterdam in criminal proceedings against an intelligence officer suspected of leaking state secrets to Morocco, the court announced today.

The case concerns a 65-year-old former employee of the Dutch National Coordinator for Combating Terrorism and Security (NCTV), who was arrested at Schiphol Airport in October 2023 when he tried to fly to Morocco with a large number of data storage devices, NL Times reports.

Schoff previously headed NCTV, and the current head of this body, Peter-Jap Albersberg, has also been confirmed as a witness in the case.

In explaining the court's decision, it is said that they may be able to testify about "an inside view of the suspect's position in the organization and the suspect's access to state secrets and confidential documents and their handling."

The hearings will be held before an investigating judge and will not be open to the public or the media. The suspect is accused of conspiring to hand over information stored on data carriers to Moroccan intelligence services. He was in custody for almost 20 months until a court decided to release him on bail earlier this week.
