A serious incident has shaken the city of Piacenza in Italy, where a 60-year-old man of Macedonian origin is suspected of killing his wife inside the apartment they lived in. According to Italian media, the suspected perpetrator, Hako Vitanov, called the emergency number 112 himself immediately after the crime, telling the operators: "Come on, I killed my wife."
After the call, he left the apartment and for several hours he lost all trace of the police. The police and the carabinieri arrived at the couple's apartment, located on the sixth floor of a building on the outskirts of Piacenza, where they found the lifeless body of 56-year-old Milena Vitanova. She was lying in the living room, next to the sofa, in a pool of blood, while a knife suspected of being used in the crime was also found next to the body.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim had marks on his hands, suggesting that he attempted to defend himself from the attack.
Later, after about two hours of searching, authorities found the suspect in the area of the Cimitero Monumentale di Piacenza, near the grave of his deceased son. According to reports, he had attempted to harm himself by cutting his wrists, but was stopped in time by police and taken to the police station. The couple had four children, two of whom had been sent to a relative shortly before the tragic event.
The apartment has been seized by Italian authorities, while investigations to fully uncover the circumstances of the crime continue.
