Briken Calja 'conquers' the Mediterranean Games, gives Albania the

Briken Calja has excelled at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, giving Albania another gold medal. The red-and-black weightlifter triumphed in the up to 75 kilogram category, dominating in the snatch style.

Calja started the competition with a successful lift of 147 kilograms in the first attempt. In the second attempt, the Albanian successfully lifted 152 kilograms, significantly increasing the weight.

But the big moment came in the third event, where Calja lifted 154 kilograms. This weight not only secured the gold medal, but also set a new Mediterranean Games record.

Three trials, three successful lifts and a fantastic performance for the Albanian weightlifter. With this success, Albania brings to four the number of medals won at Taranto 2026. Previously, all medals had come from the sport of wrestling.

Islam Dudayev won the gold medal, Zelimkhan Abakarov secured the silver, while Ardit Zeneli took the bronze medal. Now, Briken Calja adds another gold medal and a new record to the Albanian collection at the Mediterranean Games.
