"I did it to avenge my brother, who was injured 15 years ago." This is reportedly the statement that Poli Boriçi, the 52-year-old arrested for the failed assassination attempt in Elbasan, gave to investigators.
According to his testimony, the attack on 50-year-old Ermir Kërtezi is related to an old conflict between two families. Boriçi claimed that Kërtezi had injured his brother about 15 years ago and that the consequences of that incident were severe, to the point of paralyzing him.
This version is expected to be part of the investigations to fully uncover the motive for the assassination, while the prosecution is verifying the circumstances of the early conflict and whether it was actually the cause that pushed the 52-year-old towards the attack.
But the alleged perpetrator's statement is contradicted by the version of the target himself, Ermir Kërtez. The 50-year-old has stated that relations between them had been normalized for years and that the two families lived next to each other, without any conflicts for about the last 15 years.
Despite the claim of an early conflict, investigators are continuing to work to determine the full dynamics of the event, the motive, and how the attempted attack was organized.
Boriçi was arrested after the rapid reaction of the Police, while the event shocked Elbasan after 50-year-old Kërtezi was targeted in an assassination attempt that fortunately did not result in casualties.
