New law on landfills/ Municipalities are obliged to separate and recycle by 2035

Municipalities will have to find solutions for waste differentiation by 2035. After this date, landfilling of this category will no longer be allowed.
The obligation is defined in the new law on landfills, which according to the report comes as an obligation from the European Union in the field of environmental protection.
In this sense, priority will be given to recycling and not other methods.
"After December 31, 2035, untreated waste will not be accepted in landfills," states the document that is expected to be approved by the government. In fact, the reduction of landfilling will begin immediately after approval.
Within three years of the adoption of the initiative, biodegradable municipal waste going to landfill will be reduced to 50% of the total amount in 2010.
The second phase will be in 2035, where it will be reduced to only 35%, and in the final stage, which belongs to 2045, only 10% of the total amount will be treated.
The scheme also includes incinerators, but with environmental protection conditions. On the other hand, verification of all waste collection areas will begin, to decide whether they will be closed or continue their activity.
The new law also provides for the case of exports. Albania is among the few countries where there is no differentiation of recyclable waste, while previous initiatives have failed.
